With a yawn, the King Soulseek opened his eyes. He was lying on his side on the cool tiles. It was told in secret that he was claimed to be the only Soulseek ever moved up to the position of king that refused a throne. A glare of ruby red scanned the dim castle, which was still, to his surprise and annoyance, empty. By now, there should be more Soulseeks running around -- why weren't there? Are they all on break? he thought with a snarl. Even his trustworthy servants who made it their job to attend to his every whim were absent and that was quite the issue. Oliverr was used to being tended to, and although he could easily handle his own affairs, he found them troublesome and irritating. For all the Soulseeks who lived under his rule, it was much more preferable to give the king what he wanted instead of feeling his wrath. The smart ones stayed out of his way or simply did as they were told, and the more ignorant learned the hard way.
Sprawled out on the floor, he rolled to his stomach, his hind legs splayed in an awkward position. For some reason the king could never explain, the only place in which his movements made sound was in his lands. Nowhere else could his tail be heard thumping against the ground, nor could the clicking of his claws. It baffled him. Even he, who had been crowned leader, was unsure about many of the quirks of his land. Cockiness kept him from admitting it and his sarcastic tone covered up much of the confusion he experienced. Where are they? he growled internally, his tail picking up more of a thrashing movement. The reason I brought them here was to serve me, not for me to babysit them.
Time and again, it was the same routine. Steal a soul here and there, train the rest of the Soulseeks, keep order, and wander the lands. It all bored him intensely and he sought a more interesting pace for his eternity. He had been searching for a queen to rule alongside him for what felt like years, although time had no concept anywhere in the realm, but had so far been unsuccessful. Romance was not what he was looking for. Ruling a pack of fools alone was not a job he relished. Sharing the power with another was something he looked forward to but he could never find the right female. He wasn't sure if he ever would.
